World Postal Day 2021 Theme in English

Celebrated on October 9 every year, World Post Day marks the anniversary of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) getting established across the world. Established in 1874, the UPU was set up in the capital of Switzerland, Bern. Countries around the globe since then organize celebrations on this day annually. This event is seen as an opportunity by Posts in many countries to introduce or promote new postal products and services. 192 member countries of the UPU participate in this event every year.

World Postal Day 2021 Theme

This year’s theme of the World Post Day is ‘Innovate to recover’ as the UPU director said, “When COVID-19 affected all the countries of the world, including the established supply chain infrastructure, the Post still found a way to continue offering services to communities.” The statement added, “It is this innovativeness of Posts, and their resilience in serving communities, that we are celebrating on the occasion of World Post Day.”

“Together, let us learn the lessons arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, and understand that innovation is not an accessory; it is the driving force behind recovery, and what makes this sector crucial to billions of people,” the UPU director said.

World Post Day Significance

Communication plays a significant part in establishing and developing social and economic relations. World Post Day is celebrated as an ode to the contribution and efforts of the postal industry.

On the occasion, UN General Secretary Antonio Guterres explained the significance of the day through a message. “On World Post Day, invaluable contributions of postal workers to our societies and economies. The vast postal network- involving millions of workers moving billions of pieces of mail to hundreds of thousands of post offices- is woven into our societies, connecting communities the world over,” he said.
